Murdering parents: Oishee’s death reference reaches HC
The death reference in the sensational murder case filed over the killing of police official Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife reached the High Court today to examine the verdict that sentenced their daughter Oishee Rahman to death.
Officials of the Dhaka court brought the documents of the case, including the judgement, to the High Court, HC Additional Registrar Sabbir Foez told The Daily Star.
Death reference section of the HC received the documents, he said, adding that the HC authorities will now prepare paper books for hearing the death reference.
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha will then assign the HC judges to hold the hearing, Sabbir further said.
On August 16, 2013, the bodies of Mahfuzur, inspector of Special Branch of Police, and his wife Swapna Rahman were recovered from their Chamelibagh house in the capital.
A Dhaka court on November 12 this year found their daughter Oishee guilty of killing her parents and sentenced her to death.
Meanwhile, the chief justice on Wednesday asked the death reference section to quickly prepare the paper books of the death references in the other sensational cases filed over the killing of 13-year-old boys Sheikh Md Samiul Alam Rajon and Rakib for their early hearing, Sabbir Foyez told our correspondent.
The death references in the cases reached the HC on November 9 for examining the verdicts that sentenced six people to death.
A Sylhet court on November 5 sentenced four people, including prime accused Quamrul Islam, to death for beating Rajon to death on July 8 this year.
A Khulna court the same day gave death penalty to Omar Sharif and his uncle Mintu Khan for killing Rakib by pumping air into his rectum on August 3 this year.
