Mojaheed, SQ Chy’s review: Govt pleas for early hearing
The government has filed two petitions with the Supreme Court praying for fixing a date for early hearing of the review petitions submitted by condemned war criminals Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
The attorney general’s office today submitted the petitions.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told reporters that the review petitions should be heard and disposed of on the priority basis as per the SC judgment on war criminal Abdul Quader Mollah’s case.
His office will place the petitions before the chamber judge of Appellate Division of the SC on October 21.
Yesterday, both Mojaheed and Salauddin appealed to the apex court to review its judgments that upheld their death penalties for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mojaheed and BNP leader Salauddin submitted two review petitions to the appeal section of the SC through their lawyers seeking acquittal on all the charges brought against them.
The SC upheld the capital punishment of the two convicts in June and July after hearing their appeals against the verdicts of the war crimes tribunal.
The International Crimes Tribunal issued execution warrants for the two on October 1, a day after the SC released the full verdicts.
