Man to die for killing minor girl after rape

A Sirajganj court yesterday sentenced a man to death in connection with a case for killing a minor girl after rape in Sadar upazila in 2014.

The convict, Nur Islam, 30, is son of Abdul Khaleque of Shibnathpur village in the upazila. 

Sirajganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Fazle Khoda Mohammad Nazir also sentenced the convict to life term imprisonment for abducting the girl.

According to the case statement, on October 11 in 2014, Nur called neighbouring Ritu Khatun to his room for watching TV.

He later took the girl to an adjacent field, raped her there and killed her before fleeing the spot.

Being informed by villagers, police recovered Ritu’s body the following day.

Police submitted charge sheet against the convict after victim’s mother Kohinur Begum filed a case with Sirajganj Sadar Police Station accusing Nur, Additional Public Prosecutor Anwar Parvez Limon said.

After examining records and witnesses, the court handed down the verdict in presence of the convict yesterday noon.
