Housewife beaten dead by ‘brother-in-law’ in Laxmipur
A housewife has been beaten to death allegedly by her brother-in-law in Laxmipur Sadar upazila.
Police recovered the body of the victim, Shilpi Akter, 27, from her in-laws’ house in Charbhuta area of Bhabaniganj under the upazila this morning, reports our Noakhali correspondent.
The incident took place yesterday afternoon when Shilpi’s brother-in-law Nirob Hossain asked her to give him water when she was working at the family’s pond. As she could not bring water for him immediately, Nirob went to the pond and had a quarrel with her.
At one stage, Nirob beat up Shilpi and also kicked her in the abdomen, leaving her dead on the spot, locals said.
After the incident, Nirob, and his parents Moslem Mia and Taslima fled from the house.
Locals informed police after finding the body of Shilpi beside the pond. Police later recovered the body and sent to morgue for autopsy, said Lokman Hossain, officer-in-charge of Laxmipur Sadar Police Station.
Terming it a murder, the OC said the victim’s elder brother Amir Hossain filed a case with the police station this morning accusing Nirob, Moslem Mia and Taslima over the incident.
Victim’s husband Harunur Rashid, who works as a labourer at a brickfield in Cumilla, was not present when the incident took place, Amir Hossain told our local correspondent.
Shilpi and Harunur Rashid got married six years ago and were living in Cumilla after their marriage. About one and half year back Harunur returned home and left his wife with his family in Laxmipur, he also said.
Police are trying to arrest the accused, OC Lokman added.
