Rains halt Sylhet’s rail link with Dhaka, Ctg for 10hrs
Rail communication of Sylhet with Dhaka and Chittagong remained suspended for 10 hours as overnight downpour damaged rail tracks in Srimangal upazila of Moulvibazar early today.
The authorities suspended the train services as the heavy downpour that started in the district last night damaged the railway tracks in Janokichhara area around 2:00am, said Rustam Alo Fakir, stationmaster of Bhanugachh Rail Station.
Dhaka-bound Kalni Express and Jayantika Express remained stranded at Sylhet Railway Station following the halt of the train services.
They were scheduled to leave Sylhet at 6:40am and 8:20am respectively, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting Md Abdul Razzak, station manager of Sylhet Railway Station.
Besides, Sylhet-bound Udayan and Upobon expresses from Chittagong and Dhaka also got stuck at Shayestaganj station of Habiganj.
Along with that, two freight trains from Chittagong and Dhaka had to wait at Shayestaganj till 9:40am when the report was filed.
On completion of the repairing work, the train services resumed at noon, said Shakhawat Hossain, assistant engineer of Srimangal Railway Station.
All the trains that got stuck at different stations started for destinations, he added.
