Rupa's body exhumed, handed over to family
Police today exhumed the body of Rupa Khatun, who was killed after gang-rape in a running bus on August 25, from Tangail graveyard and handed over it to the victim’s family for burial in Sirajganj.
The body was exhumed from Central Graveyard in Tangail around 4:00pm and handed over it to Rupa’s elder brother Hafizur Paramanik following a local court order, reports our Tangail correspondent.
District Magistrate in Tangail Khan Mohammad Nurul Amin ordered to hand over Rupa’s body to her family in the morning.
Rupa’s body will be taken to her home at Asanbari village in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj, the correspondent said.
Earlier on August 25, the law enforcers recovered the body on Tangail-Mymensingh road in Pachish Mile area of Madhupur upazila.
On the following day, an autopsy was conducted and police buried the body at the graveyard finding no identity of the victim.
Sub-Inspector Aminul Islam of Aronkhola Police Outpost filed a murder case against unidentified criminals on the same day.
Seeing the news and photo in media, Rupa's family members on August 28 identified the body.
Later, the law enforcers arrested five staffers of a bus from Madhupur early hours on August 29 in this connection.
During interrogation, the arrested transport workers admitted their involvement in the crime.
They were later sent to jail after their confessional statement was recorded under Section 164 in Tangail on August 29 and 30.
