EC warns ‘20’ returning officers

The Election Commission (EC) today sent letters to around 20 returning officers for their inaction in taking steps against the people for violating electoral code of conduct.

“We have sent letters to some 15 to 20 returning officers asking them to look into incidents of violation of electoral code of conduct that were reported in different media,” EC Secretary Sirajul Islam told The Daily Star this evening.

According to media reports, different mayor candidates and their supporters breached the electoral code of conduct ahead of the December 30 municipality elections.
