Monem Khan's nameplate removed from Uttara Gonobhaban
The nameplate of Abdul Monem Khan, the then East Pakistan provincial governor, was removed from Uttara Gonobhaban in Natore Sadar upazila today.
Local administration removed the nameplate complying with order of Housing and Public Works Ministry, Azadur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Natore, told our local correspondent.
Abdul Kuddus, the ruling party lawmaker of Natore-4 constituency, Shafiqul Islam Shimul of Natore-2 and Abul Kalam Azad of Natore-1 constituency were present during removal of the nameplate.
Natore district unit Muktijodda Sangsad Sontan Command has been pressing home their demand for removal of the nameplate since long.
Uttara Gonobhaban is known as Dighapatia Rajbari, the residence of the Maharajas of Dighapatia built by Dayaram Roy, in 18th century (1734).
On July 24, 1967, the Dighapatia Palace was renamed as Dighapatia Governor House by the governor of East Pakistan.
Later, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, declared the palace as Uttara Gonobhaban, the official residence of Bangladesh prime minister in northern region on February 9, 1972.
Since then, two nameplates engraving the names of Monem Khan and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, were attached to two sides of the entrance of the Uttara Gonobhaban.
