5.4-magnitude earthquake rocks northeastern Bangladesh

An earthquake of 5.4-magnitude on the Richter scale shook Northeastern parts of the country including Sylhet last night.

The epicentre of the moderate quake was India-Myanmar bordering region, 318-km East of the Seismic Centre at Bangladesh Meteorological Department in the capital's Agargaon area, said a Met office bulletin issued on Sunday.

The tremor was felt at 11:15 pm Bangladesh time, it added.

Being feared over the shake, people rushed out of their houses, reports our Sylhet correspondent.

Most of the people, however, could not feel the tremor for being asleep.

No loss of lives or property has been reported due to the earthquake so far.
