Due share of water a must: BNP
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the countrymen will not accept any agreement or memorandum of understanding if due share of water of common rivers including Teesta is not ensured during Hasina’s India visit.
“Due share of water of common rivers including Teesta and solution of bilateral issues including reducing huge trade gap between the two countries are our first priority,” Fakhrul said.
Fakhrul’s remarks came hours after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached New Delhi on a state visit that she believes will take relations with India to a new height. He was talking to reports after placing wreaths at the party founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave in Dhaka.
He said people will not accept any agreement that goes against the country’s independence and sovereignty.
Quoting from several ruling party leaders that Banglaesh-India relation is now at the new height, Fakhrul said Bangladesh does not need a defence pact with India as it does not face any threat of external aggression from any of its neighbors.
