Dinajpur cop killed as police van hits tree

A policeman was killed and 4 others injured after a police van veered off the road and crashed into a tree in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur early today.

The deceased was Abdul Latif, 33, a constable of Bochaganj Police Station hailing from Gaibandha, our local correspondent reports. The injured were ASI Rezaur Rahman, 30, constables Abdul Gaffar, 35, Belal Hossain, 35, and driver Md Sohel, 33.

Driver of the van lost control and steered into a roadside tree on Dinajpur-Bochaganj road in Chilapara village, Ruhul Amin, superintendent of district police, said.

Constable Abdul Latif died on the spot. The others were taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. ASI Gaffar was referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
