3 including mother, daughter killed as bus hits rickshaw

Three people, including a woman and her daughter, were killed as a bus rammed into a rickshaw in Ashulia of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka this morning.

The deceased were identified as Maleka, 22, and her daughter Fatema, 3, hailing from Lohagorah of Narail, and rickshaw puller Juwel Rana, 25, son of Abdul Aziz of Nagarpur in Tangail, reports our Savar correspondent.

Nurul Huda Bhuiyan, sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station, said a Paturia-bound bus from Gazipur hit the rickshaw in front of gate no-3 of the National Monument in Nabinagar around 7:30am. Maleka and her daughter were heading towards Nabinagar bus stand, in bids to go Narail.

After the bus hit the rickshaw, the same bus ran over the trio when they fell to the ground, he added.

On information, police recovered the bodies from the spot.

They have already seized the bus but its driver managed to flee the scene, the police official added.
