Hundreds of passengers were stuck in a 15-kilometre tailback on Dhaka-Chittagong highway that ensued this morning following multiple road accidents in Comilla last night.

The accidents took placed on Meghna and Daudkandi bridges, Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Highway Police Station, told The Daily Star in the morning.

The OC also blamed the sloth pace of toll collection at Meghna and the Eid rush for the overloaded highways. However, Maj Zia, in-charge of the toll plaza, could not be reached for comment.

Our local stringer reported of a 15-kilometre tailback from that stretched from east of Daudkandi toll plaza to Meghna toll plaza, a queue that had been building up since last night.

Ahmed Neaz Pavel, a businessman started for Dhaka from Comilla at 7:00am. He could not reach Daudkandi Toll plaza when it was 11:40am. “It hardly takes two-and-half hours to reach Dhaka from Comilla,” he told The Daily Star.

“I don't know when I will reach Dhaka. I have already spent my day on the road,” he added.
