‘Criminal’ killed in Dhaka Rab ‘shootout’

An alleged criminal was killed in a “gunfight” between his accomplices and the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Badda area of Dhaka in the wee hours today.

Deceased Zahirul Islam, 32, was an accused in several criminal cases, said a Rab text massage floated to the media this morning.

The “shootout” took place between a patrol team of Rab-1 and the criminals around 3:30am, the massage reads.

Zahirul suffered several bullet wounds and was declared dead upon arrival at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the SMS added.

A foreign pistol, a locally made gun and some empty cartridges were recovered from the spot.
