The newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has refused to receive tokens of greetings, such as sweets and flowers, from well-wishers as the country is going through a critical time due to coronavirus pandemic.

The new IGP is reluctant to receive any token of greetings -- showing respect to the thousands of people, who are now suffering from various difficulties due to the spread of virus in the country, said Mohammad Noor Alam, staff officer to Benazir.

Yesterday, the home ministry issued a circular appointing Benazir Ahmed, who was serving as Director General of Rapid Action Battalion, as the new IGP.

Benazir will succeed Mohammad Javed Patwary and will assume office on April 15.
