Civil aviation secretary replaced
A day into removing the chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (Caab), the government today replaced the secretary of civil aviation and tourism ministry.
SM Golam Farroque, a member of the Planning Commission, replaces Khorshed Alam Chowdhury as the secretary to the civil aviation ministry. Chowdhury has been made a member of the Planning Commission.
The moves came days after the UK Department for Transport imposed a ban on direct cargo from Bangladesh to the UK on security grounds.
Also today, the government made changes to five other secretary posts, including those of housing and public works, and jute and textile ministry.
Earlier on Sunday, Air Vice-Marshal Ehsanul Gani Chowdhury was made the new chairman of Caab. He replaces Air-Vice Marshal M Sanaul Huq.
Issuing a gazette notification, the public administration ministry yesterday confirmed the appointment of Ehsanul, who was air officer commanding at Bangladesh Air Force base Zahurul Huq in Chittagong. M Sanaul Huq has been placed at the armed forces division, it mentioned.
In the reshuffle made today, Mohammad Shaheed Ullah Khandakar, secretary of the jute and textile ministry, was transferred to the housing and public works ministry.
Besides, MA Kader, secretary to the rural development and co-operatives division, was made secretary of the jute and textile ministry.
In a separate order, Dr Proshanta Kumar Roy, project director of the One house One-farm project, was appointed acting secretary of the rural development and co-operatives division.
On the other hand, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Jillar Rahman was made an acting member to the privatisation commission (equivalent to an acting secretary).
The decision came in two separate orders given by the public administration ministry.
