Charges against 2 Kishoreganj ‘Razakars’ accepted

International Crimes Tribunal-1 today accepted the charges brought against two alleged Razakars for their “war crimes” in Kishoreganj during 1971.

The three-member tribunal led by Justice Anwarul Haque took the charges into cognisance after Prosecutor Tureen Afroz placed brief submission on charges.

The accused are: Syed Mohammad Hussain alias Hossain, 64, and Muhammad Moslem Pradhan, 66. The tribunal fixed February 15 for passing next order in the case.

Earlier on December 3 last year, the prosecution pressed charges of war crimes and violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention 1949 against the two. This is the first time any of the accused face these charges since the start of the war trial.

BACKGROUND

Syed Mohammad left for Malaysia on May 21 last year and the investigations began on November 13, according to the tribunal's investigation agency.

Interpol has already issued a red notice and talked to Malaysian police for bringing him back, it said.

Moslem, of Kamarhati village in Nikli upazila, was arrested on July 8 this year after the tribunal issued an arrest warrant against the duo.

Syed Mohammad was originally from Machihata village (Pir Bari) in Brahmanbaria sadar upazila but had been living with his family in Kishoreganj sadar upazila since 1936 as his father worked there, according to the agency.

BRAHMANBARIA WAR CRIMES SUSPECT LANDS IN JAIL

The tribunal today sent a war crimes suspect, Emdadul Haque, 78, from Brahmanbaria to jail after police produced him before the court.

Police arrested the suspect hours after the tribunal issued arrest warrant against him over his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity in 1971 in Brahmanbaria.

According to the prosecution, Emdadul was chief of Peace Committee of Chunta Union during the war.
