Buses to resume plying tomorrow morning
After a suspension for several days following student agitations, transport owners have decided to resume the operation of buses across the country, including capital Dhaka, from tomorrow morning.
Buses will resume services across the country including Dhaka from tomorrow morning, Khondaker Enayet Ullah, secretary general Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, told The Daily Star tonight.
He declined to give further details.
“We have decided to resume the operation of long-haul buses and inter-city commutes getting assurance of security from the authorities concerned,” Faruk Talukder Sohel, chairman of Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners' Association, told The Daily Star.
Due to insecurity following students’ demonstration, transport owners and workers suspended bus services between the capital and other districts in an undeclared strike on Thursday, causing untold sufferings to thousands of people.
They kept the night coach services open on Thursday and Friday but the bus services were stopped completely from Saturday.
Bus owners and workers made the decision to kept their buses off the streets – both long-haul and inter-city commutes for fear of vandalism amid protests over the deaths of two students on Airport Road on July 29. They also sought government protection.
