Bus driver held for 'killing worker after failed rape attempt’

Dhamrai police arrested a bus driver of a ceramic factory in Dhaka’s Dhamrai area early today on charge of killing a worker of the same factory after she resisted an alleged rape attempt by him.

Firoz Elahi Sohail,31, hailing from Pangsha area of Rajbari was arrested from his in-law’s house in Jethail of Dhamrai around 4:00am, our Savar correspondent reports quoting police.

Quoting victim’s mother, officer in-charge of Dhamrai Police Station Depok Chandra Saha said Mamata,19, a worker of the same factory, boarded the bus from her residence in Dhamrai around 4:30am on Friday for going to her work place.

Since then, the girl remained missing, the OC said.

Finding no whereabouts, the family members lodged a missing dairy with the police station.

Later, police recovered the body that bore several injury marks from a bush beside a road in Kawalipara area.

They also seized the bus from Kaulipara in Dhamrai, said Depok.

The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College in Dhaka for autopsy.

In primary interrogation, Firoz admitted that he strangled the victim after failing to rape her.

Mamata was daughter of Shajahan Khan of Baliya Union in Dhamrai.
