Bogra rape: Prime accused Tufan, 3 others on fresh remand
The prime accused of Bogra student rape case Tufan Sarkar and three others were placed on a fresh remand today.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shyam Sundar Roy passed the order after they were produced before the court seeking a seven-day remand for each of them.

The prime accused, Tufan Sarkar, and his associate Munna were put on a two-day remand while his wife Asha Sarkar and mother in-law Rumi Khatun on a one-day remand, Bogra Additional Superintendent of Police Sanatan Chakrabarty told The Daily Star
Police produced eight accused before the court on completion of their three-day remand.
Four of the eight accused -- Tufan’s father-in-law Jamirur Rahman Runu, cohorts Rupom, Jitu and Dipu -- were sent to jail.

Meanwhile, three other accused –Rumki, Atiq and Jiban – were not produced before the court as Rumki is already on remand and the two others have already given confessional statement.
Bogra town Sramik League convenor Tufan Sarker abducted a female student from her home, raped her and then asked his party cadres and a woman councillor to make sure everything was hushed up on July 17.

They, in their attempt to muffle the victim, picked up the student and her mother, tortured them for four hours and then shaved their heads.

The victim's mother on Saturday filed two cases -- rape and torture -- against Tufan, Asha, Rumki, Rumi, Atiq, Munna, Ali Azam Dipu, Rupom, Shimul, Zitu and some unidentified persons.
