35 hurt in Jhenidah AL infighting
At least 35 leaders and activists of local Awami League were injured in a factional clash over establishing dominance in Sadar upazila of Jhenidah this morning.
Police said two groups of local Awami League -- one led by Fursundi UP chairman Abdul Malek and another by AL leader Shahid Shikder -- had been at loggerheads over controlling the area.
As a sequel to the enmity, followers of the both groups attacked each other with local weapons, leaving at least 35 supporters of both groups injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Officer-In-Charge of Jhenidah Sadar Police Station Emadul Hoque Sheikh.
The injured were admitted to local hospitals, said the OC, adding additional policemen have been deployed in the area to ward off further trouble.
