ASK expresses concern over cases against Star editor
Human rights body Ain O Salish Kendra today expressed deep concerns over the barrage of cases filed against The Daily Star Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam.
In a press release issued today, the organisation demanded a fair investigation into the cases.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi University Journalist Association (RUJA) also expressed concerns over the matter.
RUJA strongly condemned the countrywide filing of cases against him, said a statement signed by RUJA president Mahbub Alam and general secretary Rafiqul Islam.
“The filing of the cases across the country indicates an aggressive politically-motivated effort to harass a senior editor and a key newspaper of the country,” the statement reads.
The spree of legal actions came after Anam spoke of lapse in his editorial judgment in publishing reports based on information supplied by the country's task force interrogation cell (TFIC) during the caretaker government in 2007-08.
