Police last night rescued a boy and arrested four people who abducted him in Dinajpur after responding to a call to emergency helpline 999.
The arrested are Md Roni Islam (21), Monirul Islam (22), Zillur Mehdi (19), and Mamun Hossain (19) -- all residents of Dinajpur municipality.
According to police, three more suspects were involved with the abduction, our local correspondent reported.
Shakib Ahmed, an SSC (vocational) examinee of Dinajpur Government Technical School and College, was abducted in broad daylight at Raniganj intersection while he was returning home on Saturday noon.
Shakib, who was tortured by his abductors, was sent to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur for treatment.
On Saturday, the four picked up Shakib on a motorcycle and fled the scene, the correspondent said, quoting the victim’s family.
Later, he was taken to an unknown location and the abductors demanded Tk 2 lakh from his parents as ransom over phone, the family said.
Soon after the phone call from the abductors, Sakib’s uncle, Lutfar Rahman, filed a complaint with the helpline.
A police team, led by Sub-inspector Abdus Sobhan, then conducted raids in Birga village last night and arrested the four from a house and rescued the boy, said Mozaffar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dinajpur Sadar Police Station.
The arrestees were sent to jail after police produced them before a Dinajpur court this afternoon.
