4 Noakhali men indicted for 'war crimes'

A special tribunal in Dhaka today framed three charges against four men from Noakhali for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity committed during 1971.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 led by Justice Anwarul Haque fixed August 7 for recording opening statements of the prosecution and testimony of the witnesses.

The accused are – Amir Ali, 70, Md Joynal Abedin, 73, Abul Kalam alias AKM Mansur, 67, and Md Abdul Kuddus, 84. Of them, Mansur is on the run.

The prosecution pressed charges against five Noakhali men in the war crimes case. But later another accused of the case, Md Yusuf, died after charges were pressed. So, the deceased was not indicted, Prosecutor Zahid Imam told The Daily Star.

The three charges were pressed over the killing of at least 111 people in three incidents in 1971 Liberation War.
