207 BNP-Jamaat men charged for attacking Noor’s convoy
Police today pressed charges against 207 BNP-Jamaat men for attacking the convoy of Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor in Nilphamari in 2013.
The accused include Abu Helal, assistant secretary general of the district unit Jamaat-e-Islami, and its Sadar upazila unit ameer Khairul Anam, reports a correspondent from Nilphamari.
Mostafizur Rahman, a sub-inspector (SI) of Nilphamari Sadar Police Station and also the investigation officer of two cases filed for the attack, submitted the charge sheets to the district's Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court this morning.
On December 14, 2013, BNP-Jamaat men attacked the convoy of Asaduzzaman Noor in Ramganj Haat area of Saidpur upazila while returning from his visit to the affected northern districts after the atrocities caused by the Jamaat and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Five people including four Awami League men were killed in the attack. The minister however narrowly escaped.
Police and one Rashed Chowdhury, relative of a victim, filed the cases with the police station. Around 60 leaders and activists of the BNP-Jamaat were arrested in this connection.
