2 killed in Habiganj village clash
At least two persons were killed and over a hundred hurt in a clash between two groups of villagers over formation of a local mosque committee in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj this morning.
The deceased were identified as Matin Mia and Abdul Kabir, both hailing from Satkapan union in the upazila, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting Md Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bahubal Police Station.
The clash ensued in Mukkandi village around 7:00am that left the two dead on the spot, the police official said.
Two groups of villagers were at loggerheads centering the formation of a local mosque and change of the imam and they locked into a clash on yesterday afternoon.
“Following yesterday’s incident, the two groups launched an attack on each other equipped with local weapons this morning,” the police official told our correspondent.
More than 100 villagers were hurt in the violence, he added.
Fearing further clashes, additional police forces have been deployed in the area.
A tense situation is prevailing there centering the incident.
