Bangladesh to push for vaccine supply at UN meeting on LDC: Momen

Bangladesh will push for vaccine supply for the country and other developing countries and will discuss the issue of Rohingya repatriation during the upcoming UN meeting on LDC scheduled for June 15.

"We will push for more vaccines. Myanmar is a big issue now. So, it will also be a scope for discussing Myanmar crisis," Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told journalists at the foreign ministry today.

He said he is also likely to meet US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington DC, apart from attending the LDC meeting.

The White House last week announced that Bangladesh is among the 15 Asian countries that will receive 7 million vaccines from US.

Foreign Minister Abdul Momen said the amount of the vaccine that Bangladesh will receive has not been shared yet.

Bangladesh has been seeking AstraZeneca vaccines from the US, especially since some 16 lakh Bangladeshis who got first dose of AstraZeneca vaccines supplied by the Serum Institute of India have not received the second dose.

The US, however, will supply Pfizer or Moderna vaccines to Bangladesh as the US FDA has yet to approve AstraZeneca in the US, a foreign ministry official said.
