Woman murdered after ‘rape’ in Savar
A woman, left by her husband, was murdered allegedly after she was raped in Kathgora area of Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka this morning.
The victim, aged around 26, hailed from Dhunat upazila of Bogura district, our Savar correspondent reports quoting police.
She used to reside at a rented house in the area and was jobless, said Miraz Hossain, a sub-inspector (SI) of Ashulia Police Station.
Locals spotted the body lying inside a bamboo grove beside Kathgora mosque this morning and informed police, the SI said.
On information, police recovered the body which bore a number of injury marks, he said.
“It seemed the woman was strangled to death after she was raped,” SI Miraz said adding that the body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue for autopsy.
What do we know about the victim?
The woman rented the house two months ago, the police official said quoting the house owner.
Her parents died couple years ago and her husband left her last year. She used to lend money to people on interest, according to her landlord’s statement.
Police have detained a relative of the victim and were interrogating him, he added.
