A Dhaka court today placed Ibrahim Ridoy, the prime accused in the killing of Taslima Begum Renu by a mob on Saturday in Dhaka’s Uttar Badda, on a five-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order after Inspector Abdur Razzak, also investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

The accused, Ibrahim Ridoy, 19, used to sell vegetables in front of the school gate, Md Abdul Baten, additional police commissioner (DB), said at a press conference today.

He also disclosed names of some other involved with the crime, he said.

On Saturday morning, Taslima, 40, a single mother of two, went to Uttar Badda Government Primary School regarding admission of her child where she talked with a female guardian of a student about the admission process.

At one stage of their conversation, the guardian suspected Taslima as a child kidnapper after she (Taslima) asked the address of the guardian.

After hearing this, Ridoy along with 15 to 20 others went to the school. In such a situation, the school authorities locked Taslima in a room on the first floor.

As the news spread, more people from the nearby market went there and broke into the room and started beating her to death.

Ridoy fled to his village home in Narayanganj following the incident and cut off his hair to hide his identity.

The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police yesterday arrested Ridoy from his aunt’s house in Narayanganj’s Bhulta upazila.

Police have so far arrested eight people in this connection. Some of them were arrested after scrutinising amateur video that had gone viral.
