Siddiqur to sit for exam Oct 24
Titumir College student Siddiqur Rahman, who lost his eyesight in police action during a demonstration at Shahbagh in Dhaka, will sit for third-year examination under Dhaka University on October 24.
Sadia Arefin Mumu, a second year student at the Philosophy department of the same college, will assist Siddiqur as a scribe during the examination.
“It is good news. I am going to sit for the exam for what I have lost my eyes. Even after losing eye, I am optimistic to continue my studies. Now it is coming true,” Siddiqur shared feelings while talking to The Daily Star.
Siddiqur, a student of the political science department, said he is not sure how much he can do well in the examination, but he is taking preparation.
“My nephew Selim reads and I listen to him. Sometimes I record the lesson on my phone and learn it later,” Siddiqur told about his preparation for the exam.
An application, referred by the college authorities, was sent to the examination controller office of Dhaka University.
Confirming the matter, DU Examination Controller Bahalul Haque Chowdhury, said, “We accepted the application and gave permission to the authority concern in this regard.”
On October 2, Siddiqur joined state-owned Essential Drugs Company Limited as a telephone operator. Earlier On September 13, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim handed over the appointment letter to Siddiqur.
Siddiqur was injured when a policeman lobbed a teargas canister at him during a demonstration of the students of seven Dhaka University-affiliated colleges in the city's Shahbagh area on July 20, to press their seven-point demand that include announcement of their exam dates.
As per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's directive, the government sent Siddiqur to India for treatment on July 27. Doctors tried in vain to restore his eyesight.
