Local administration imposed section 144 within five kilometres area of Sylhet militant den where an Army-led joint force is conducting an operation, codenamed “Operation Twilight”, since yesterday morning.

The section 144 has been imposed from Zainapur to Chandaigate areas in Shibbari since 11:00pm yesterday, our photojournalist reports from the spot.

The restriction will continue until the end of the joint forces’ operation, codenamed “Twilight”, at the five-storey building in Shibbari area.

A huge blast was heard near the militant den Atia Mahal in Sylhet’s Shibbari where the operation is going on.

The building seems to have tilted towards one side following the impact of the blast around 11:45am, our photojournalist, who was stationed about 200 yards away, said.

Two powerful bombs went off at separate places near a militant den in Sylhet, killing five people, including two policemen, and injuring 40 others, even as joint forces were raiding the hideout for a second straight day yesterday.

Another person succumbed to his injuries early today, raising the death toll from the two powerful bomb blasts near the militant den to six.

Hours after the blasts, US-based SITE Intelligence said terror group Islamic State claimed credit for the attack.
