Quota demo: 7-day ultimatum for withdrawal of cases
The quota-reform agitators today gave a seven-day ultimatum to the authorities concerned for withdrawing all the cases filed during demonstrations at Shahbagh and Dhaka University.
Addressing a press conference at DU campus, they also threatened to boycott all classes and exams in educational institutions throughout the country If the cases are not withdrawn within the next seven days.
General students are fearing harassment as the accused in the cases are unidentified, said Nurulhaq Nur, a joint convener of Bangladesh Shadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, a platform of students who had been demonstrating for reforms in the country's quota system in civil service.
Four cases were filed against a huge number of unidentified people on charges of vandalism on April 11. The charges stemmed from the attack on the DU vice chancellor's residence. Other charges were related to obstruction of justice during the quota-reform demonstration in Dhaka.
