Woman dies after falling off rickshaw during mugging

A woman died after falling off a rickshaw while she was being mugged in Dhaka's Mugda area this morning.

The victim was identified as Tarina Begum Lipi (38) of Sadar upazila in Sylhet. She along with family members came to Dhaka on February 24 to visit relatives in South Rajarbagh, police and relatives said.

Proloy Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Mugda Police Station, told The Daily Star that Lipi suffered serious injuries after falling off a rickshaw when some muggers dragged her bag near Mugda stadium around 5:30am.

Lipi was first taken to Mugda General Hospital from where she was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as her condition deteriorated, said the OC.

Lipi succumbed to her injuries at DMCH around 6:45am, said OC Proloy.

The incident happened when Lipi and her family members were going to Kamalapur Railway Station to catch a train to Sylhet, added the police official.
