Supriyo Chakravarty passes away

Supriyo Chakravarty, freedom fighter and prominent income tax lawyer of Sylhet, husband of Advocate Sultana Kamal, passed away this evening in BIRDEM hospital, Dhaka.

He was suffering from brain stroke followed by pneumonia for last two weeks. He was 74.

Supriyo, also a cultural activist, breathed his last around 8:00pm, Nur Khan Liton, a colleague of noted human rights activist Sultana Kamal told The Daily Star.

He was admitted to the hospital on July 14 and was transferred to the ICU on July 21 after suffering a stroke, Tipu Sultan, another colleague of Sultana Kamal said.

Before his death, he donated his eyes to Sandhani and his body to Kumudini Hospital of Mirzapur in Tangail for research purposes, he said.

He was born on December 25 in 1944 in Sylhet.

He left behind his wife, a daughter and many well-wishers to mourn his death.
