‘Rapists’ of Garo woman on 10-day remand

A Dhaka court today placed on 10-day remand two people arrested on charge of gang-raping a 21-year-old indigenous woman on May 21.

Metropolitan magistrate Amit Kumar Dey passed the order this afternoon after police produced Ashraf Khan alias Tushar, 35, and Jahidul Islam Lavlu, 26, before the court with the 10-day remand prayer.

Rapid Action Battalion yesterday arrested Tushar and Lavlu, who confessed to the heinous crime in primary interrogation.

The indigenous woman was raped in a running microbus in the capital on May 21.

The rapists lured her into the trap with an offer of a better job, claimed the Rapid Action Battalion.

A case was filed with Bhatara Police Station on Friday, where the victim mentioned that five people had "gang-raped" her for over an hour that night.
