Liquor seized as car with MP sticker flees Dhaka hotel

Customs intelligence raided a top hotel in Dhaka and seized a large supply of liquor.

The officials said an illegal vehicle that had a MP sticker on it managed to get away during the drive.

The vehicle, said to have been purchased with 'carnet facility,' belonged to a director of Dhaka Regency Hotel Arif Motahar, said a short-message from the customs intelligence.

Carnet facilitates duty and tax free import which remains valid for upto one year.

The incident took place early today as a raid in the top Dhaka hotel yielded a large supply of liquor. Hotel authorities failed to produce necessary papers for the liquor.

Customs officials, in a Facebook post, said the owner managed to remove the illegal Range Rover before law enforcers could get to it.

Legal procedures are underway in this regard. Officials are probing further into the identity of the owners and guests of the hotel, the message read.
