The High Court today scrapped a lower court order that had placed Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna on a seven-day remand in a sedition case.

But police, if necessary, can interrogate him at the jail gate, the court said.

The HC bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Khasruzzaman passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Manna challenging the lower court's order for his remand.

Manna was placed on a ten-day remand in February this year but he fell sick on the third day of his remand, Idris Rahman, a lawyer of Manna, told The Daily Star.

On March 18, a Dhaka court allowed police to complete the rest seven day's remand of Manna.

On the following day, Manna filed a petition with the HC challenging the order.

On August 19, the HC issued a rule upon the government why the Dhaka court's order placing Manna on seven days' remand should not be cancelled.

After holding hearing on the rule, the HC today delivered its judgement.
