Chinese man held with gold bars at Dhaka airport
A Chinese national was detained with 28 gold bars weighing over three kilogrammes at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in capital Dhaka this morning.
Detainee Xian Zhu landed at the airport from Dubai around 11:00am, said Shahidul Islam, director general of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID).
Suspecting his movement, a CIID team stopped him while the foreigner was crossing the green channel at the airport.
When the CIID officials asked him about carrying any taxable product, he denied, Shahidul said.
Later, the officials searched him, scanned his luggage and found 28 gold bars hidden inside three portable lights.
The price of the gold was estimated around Tk 1.62 core, the CIID official said.
