Asma Kibria passes away

Asma Kibria passes away at a hospital in Dhaka Monday morning.

Asma Kibria, widow of former finance minister and Awami League leader SAMS Kibria, died of cardiac arrest at a Dhaka hospital this morning.

She breathed her last around 9:10am at United Hospital, her family sources said. She was 78.

Her first namaz-e-janaza will be held at Gulshan's Azad Mosque after Asr prayers today. Her second namaz-e-janaza will be held at Banani graveyard.

She left behind a son Dr Reza Kibria and a daughter Nazli Kibria.

The then opposition lawmaker and Awami League leader SAMS Kibria and four others, including his nephew Shah Manzur Huda and local AL leader Abdur Rahim, were killed in a grenade attack on a rally in Habiganj on January 27, 2005.

In the latest development of the trial of the murder case, a Sylhet court framed charges against 32 people including ex-home minister Lutfozzaman Babar, former Sylhet mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Huji leader Mufti Hannan.
