4 JnU students ‘assaulted for protesting stalking’
Four students of Jagannath University were assaulted reportedly by some other students of the university for protesting an incident of “stalking a female student” by the latter on the campus this afternoon.
Islamic History and Culture department's students -- Samiul Shawon, Unus Kbir Razib and Hasanuzzaman reportedly stalked the female student of English department and made indecent gesture to her on the campus around 1:00pm, according to a written complaint submitted to the university vice chancellor.
They also “assaulted” four other students of the English department as they protested the incident, the statement reads.
In the complaint, signed by the students of English department, the victims urged the VC to ensure their security on the campus and demanded exemplary punishment of the “attackers”.
The victims took primary treatment following the assault, reports our JnU correspondent.
“This is a very shameful incident. We want proper solution from the university authorities in this regard,” JnU English department Chairman Prof Abu Zafor said.
“The authorities got a written complaint in this connection,” JnU VC Mijanur Rahman told The Daily Star.
“We are investigating the matter and will take steps soon,” he added.
