The government has taken foolproof security measure for the celebration of Pahela Baishakh in Dhaka, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said today.

This year, celebrations will be more unique with the Unesco recognition of Mongol Shobhajatra, the hallmark colourful rally, and many foreign guests are expected to attend, he said.

In this backdrop, there will be ample security measures centering the cultural fiesta, he said.

“I call upon you not to celebrate the festivity after 5:00pm, there will be no celebration in open areas after the stipulated time,” the home boss said after attending a security drill at Ramna Park.

Dog squads, bomb disposal units, and SWAT will remain watchful alongside police; and the whole area will be under the surveillance of CCTV cameras to avoid any untoward situation.

There is no specific security threat and all law enforcing agencies have been kept on high alert.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwary, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) chief Monirul Islam were also present at his side.
