‘Extortionist’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab in Dhaka
A listed extortionist was killed in what Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) said a “gunfight” between the elite force members and his cohorts at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka early today.
Two Rab members were also injured in the encounter with the alleged criminals, a Rab official said.
Deceased Aidul alias Mama Sagor, 25, one of the top extortionists in Karwanbazar area, was an aide of a top criminal Ashik, Lt Col Mohiuddin Ahmed, commanding officer of Rab-2, told The Daily Star.
The “gunfight” erupted as a gang, after being challenged, opened fire at a patrol team of the elite force near Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University around 1:45am, the Rab official said.
Bullet-hit Aidul was pronounced dead when he was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital after the “gunfight”, the Rab official said.
Aidul was accused in several cases filed Arms Act, he added.
Hailing from Gazipur, the deceased was a resident of Karwanbazar.
The law enforcers recovered firearms and ammunition from the spot, he said.
