'Drive against illegal vehicles, footpath grabbers very soon'
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon today said that the city authorities will very soon begin drives against illegal vehicles and rickshaws.
The authorities, in cooperation with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic department, will also conduct a drive to free footpaths in Motijheel, Gulistan and New Market areas from illegal grabbing, the mayor told journalists at his office.
Sayeed Khokon was addressing the media following a meeting of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) at the Nagar Bhaban (Dhaka South).
Ramps which are erected violating building code in the city will also be demolished in the drives, the mayor said.
Police Commissioner of DMP Md Shafiqul Islam and Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Masud Alam were present among others in the meeting.
