Councillor, 9 held for attacking MP’s car
Police claimed to have arrested 10 people, including a councilor of Narayanganj City Corporation, for their alleged involvement in attacking and vandalizing the car of a lawmaker in Naraynganj’s Sidhdhirganj area last night.
Selina Islam, lawmaker in the reserved women's seat No. 349, however was not injured as she was not inside the car that time, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-charge of Sidhdhirganj Police Station Shaheen Parvez.
Among the arrestees, Golam Mohammad Sadril is the councilor of ward no. 5 of the city corporation, the OC said.
The attackers vandalised the window panes of the car, the police official said.
The 10 were arrested from the house of one Kalu Mia in Omarpur area of Sidhdhirganj soon after the attack around 9:45pm, Monirul Islam, additional superintendent of police in Narayanganj.
The OC said Selina’s car was vandalised when she went to the house of Kalu for settling a family dispute of his tenants, who are relatives of the MP.
The attackers vandalised the window panes of the car but MP Selina escaped the unhurt from the attack, said the police official.
On information, a police team rushed to the spot and rescued the lawmaker, said the OC.
Police arrested them from the area, based on the allegation made by MP Selina, said Monirul Islam, additional superintendent of police in Narayanganj.
While talking to media, OC Shaheen Parvez said they were investigating why Sadril was on the spot during the attack.
However, police could not confirm the reason behind the attack.
