Closing arguments end against 3 of Habiganj

The prosecution yesterday in the case against three Habiganj men, who are facing four charges of crimes committed during the 1971 Liberation War, completed their closing arguments on factual aspects.

The accused -- Muhibur Rahman Boromia and his brother Mujibur Rahman Angur Mia and their cousin Abdur Razzak -- however, pleaded not guilty before the tribunal.

Prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Simon placed his arguments citing testimonies of the prosecution witnesses and the documentary evidence they have submitted earlier.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 also started hearing the argument from the defence counsel. Masud Rana, a counsel for Razzak, yesterday placed his argument on first charge.

Defence counsel will resume his arguments today.

The charges are: killing of two freedom fighters, raping two women, confining and torturing an unarmed civilian, and arson attack and looting of the house of Maj Gen (retd) MA Rob, the Liberation War's deputy commander-in-chief.
