Cases filed for dodging tax of 2 luxurious cars
Officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) today filed two cases on charges of tax evasion for two luxurious cars seized from Dhaka and Chittagong.
A car of Toyota Harrier model was seized from Dhaka’s Uttara today while a Land Rover was seized from Chittagong on July 11 in two drives conducted by CIID Director General Shahidul Islam.
Upon secret information CIID on July 11 first seized the Land Rover car which was used by a businessman hailing from Chittagong’s Bayazid area, our correspondent reports quoting CIID Assistant Director Abu Hanif Mohammad Abdul Ahad.
The customs officials managed to seize the Toyota Harrier car from Uttara in Dhaka today after it managed to flee Chittagong during the drive on July 11.
The cases were filed under the Customs Act, 1969, he added.
CIID officials suspect that the cars were imported under the Carnet de Passage facility, which allows tourists to import vehicles into a country without paying duty for a limited period on condition of re-exporting.
