Boyfriend sent to jail in model 'suicide'

A Dhaka court today sent to jail the boyfriend of model Sabira Hossain, who allegedly committed suicide at her flat in Dhaka yesterday, and his younger brother.

Nirjhar Sinha Rounaq and his younger brother Prayay Sinha were arrested hours after Sabira’s alleged suicide at her rented flat in Dhaka’s Rupnagar yesterday. Later, Sabira’s mother filed a case against Nirjhar accusing him of instigating her to commit suicide.

Metropolitan Magistrate Jakir Hossain Tipu ordered to send the two to jail after Inspector Shah Md Akteruzzaman Ilias, the investigation officer of the case, produced them before it.

Hours before Sabira Hossain's body was recovered by police, there was a post on Facebook account in her name about her decision to commit suicide.

According to police, Sabira had been living in the apartment with Rounaq and might have killed herself as Nirjhar had refused to marry her.

Nirjhar said Sabira was putting pressure on him to marry her, police said.
