94 BNP men get bail in 2 cases
The High Court today granted six-week bail to 94 BNP leaders and activists in two violence cases filed in Narayanganj and Madaripur districts.
The accused leaders include Nazrul Islam Azad, assistant secretary of BNP’s international affairs, and Annisur Rahman Talukder Khokon, assistant secretary of mass education of the party.
The bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Amir Hossain granted them bail after hearing two separate petitions filed by the accused seeking bail in the cases.
They also appeared before the High Court bench today for the anticipatory bail.
Petitioner’s lawyer, Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon told The Daily Star that police filed a case with Araihazar Police Station of Narayanganj against 87 BNP leaders and activists including Nazrul Islam Azad on charge of clashing with police and preventing them from discharging their duties during a programme organised on the occasion of BNP’s 39th founding anniversary.
Among the accused, 86 got bail from the High Court earlier, Leon said.
The other case was filed with Kalkini Police Station of Madaripur against 10 BNP leaders and activists including Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon on charge of beating local Awami League men.
Among the accused, eight were granted bail by the High Court today, said Leon.
