8-month old child returns to mother’s lap following SC order

An eight-month-old child, who was deprived of his mother’s breastfeeding for around one and a half months, went back to his mother’s lap following a Supreme Court order today.

Yeasin, who was born on February 18 this year, was taken by his father Ehsan Abdullah tactically from his mother Tasmia Hasan on September 26 due to their divorce following psychological conflict.

Tasmia filed a writ petition with the High Court on October 22 seeking its order to Ehsan to give Yeasin back to her.  They are residents of Gulshan area in Dhaka.

The HC on October 23 issued a rule asking Ehsan to explain why he should not be directed to return the child to his mother. The HC, however, rejected her prayer for its directive on Ehsan to allow her (Tasmia) to breast feed Yeasin.

Tasmia later moved an appeal before the Appellate Division of the SC against the HC’s rejection order.

A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, who is carrying out responsibilities of the chief justice, held hearing on the appeal today.

At a stage the five judges of the apex court heard statements from Tasmia at their chamber room and later they ordered Ehsan Abdullah to give the child to his mother Tasmia by 5:00pm today.

The apex court said Yeasin will stay with his mother until disposal of the rule issued by the HC and his father Ehsan can see the child if he wants during this period.

Ehsan retuned the baby to Tasmia under the SC order.
