2 traders jailed for illegal sale of OMS onions
A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) sentenced two traders to six months’ imprisonment for selling OMS (Open Market Sale) onions illegally last night.
The traders are Sekander Ali Akhand, owner of Jamil Banijyalay at Sadeque Khan Krishi market in the capital’s Mohammadpur, and its manager Konkon Bhawal.
The court led by Rab’s Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam sentenced to the duo for selling the OMS onions at Tk 60 per kilogramme in wholesale market.
The onion was sold to the traders by Asad, a worker of Open Market Sale (OMS) near the Secretariat at the price of Tk 45 per kg, Tk 10 higher than the government-fixed price, the Rab official said.
The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) everyday provides 3000 kg onions to a dealer for selling in open market at Tk 35 per kg.
